The groundbreaking ceremony for the project’s first phase was held on October 30 with the presence of provincial and local officials. The solar farm, described as one of the largest centralized photovoltaic plants in Iran, is expected to be synchronized to the grid before the start of next summer.
The full project will eventually deliver up to 226 megawatts of clean energy. Mehdi Hamdam Mo’men, CEO of Persian Gulf Renewable Energy Development Company said the plant has been designed using state-of-the-art technology and in compliance with the highest environmental and safety standards, positioning it as a model for renewable energy development in the country.
He added that the PGPIC has recently secured permits to develop 2,500 megawatts of renewable capacity across ten provinces. In addition to reducing the national electricity shortfall, the saved natural gas will be redirected as feedstock for downstream petrochemical plants within the group.
The Golpayegan facility is part of the group’s broader plan to commission 5,000 megawatts of solar capacity nationwide by 2027, reinforcing its long-term strategy for energy diversification and sustainable industrial development.
