According to the company’s Public Relations Office, this comprehensive project—conducted in line with the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Holding’s overarching sustainability and emissions-reduction policies—was implemented with the scientific collaboration of Shahid Beheshti University and the University of Tehran.
Relying on actual production and energy-consumption data across all operating units, the initiative represents the first fully integrated life-cycle assessment (LCA) ever executed in Iran’s petrochemical industry. Through precise analysis of environmental impacts throughout all stages of the value chain, the project establishes a foundation for designing and implementing actionable strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse-gas emissions and optimizing resource efficiency.
The LCA was performed in accordance with international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, while carbon and water footprints were calculated to identify critical emission hotspots and evaluate patterns of resource consumption. As part of the project, a comprehensive emissions inventory—covering volatile organic compounds, greenhouse gases, and criteria pollutants—was developed to provide decision-makers with a detailed environmental profile of operational units.
According to the scientific teams involved, the coordinated participation of production units, technical services, HSE, and energy departments in supplying precise industrial data was a key factor in the project’s successful completion.
