The new grades, designated 8040H and 7242G, were introduced during a formal ceremony hosted by the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), with participation from senior officials at the Food and Drug Administration, Petrochemical Research and Technology Company, and the Syndicate of Pharmaceutical, Chemical, and Packaging Producers.
Developed to meet stringent international standards including USP Class VI and ISO 10993, the two PVC grades offer high purity, biocompatibility, and strong chemical resistance—key features for use in pharmaceutical packaging and healthcare applications.
Grade 8040H is tailored for high-flexibility applications such as medical tubing, blood and IV bags, and injection equipment. It offers controlled viscosity and thermal stability, making it suitable for extrusion and injection molding processes.
In contrast, 7242G features a more rigid structure and is designed for semi-hard medical components such as pharmaceutical containers, packaging caps, and precision-molded parts.
The launch is part of PGPIC’s broader strategy to localize critical materials in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Officials highlighted that the domestic production of these grades—previously imported—would curb foreign currency outflows, enhance supply stability, and enable quality monitoring under local regulatory frameworks.
The production of medical-grade PVC involves strict control of trace impurities, compatibility with sterilization methods such as ethylene oxide and gamma radiation, and compliance with regulatory standards—indicating a technological leap for Arvand Petrochemical and the country’s advanced material capabilities.
