In a detailed statement released on Friday, Shariatmadari said that the mission to "save the environment" must begin with changing attitudes and behaviors, and emphasized that the green transformation of Iran’s petrochemical industry should be viewed as a strategic advantage in the modern era.
"Today, the global observance of Environment Day is a call to action," Shariatmadari said. "The fate of this planet’s current and future generations hinges on our ability to heal the deep wounds inflicted on nature by unchecked industrialization and irresponsible consumption."
Referring to Iran’s environmental challenges, he described the country as bearing a heavy share of ecological strain, with key natural resources such as clean air, fertile soil, and water under serious threat.
He stressed that Iran’s industrial sector has a duty to adopt sustainable practices, adding, "Abandoning this responsibility is an unforgivable error before today’s society and tomorrow’s generations."
Shariatmadari pointed to PGPIC’s recent initiatives in renewable energy, gas flaring reduction, carbon capture, wastewater treatment, and energy efficiency as evidence of its commitment to environmental responsibility.
He noted that no development projects within the holding would be approved without an environmental appendix.
"The drive toward a ‘green industry’ must become a competitive edge for Iran’s petrochemical sector," he said, calling for measurable, science-driven actions rather than symbolic declarations.
He also welcomed international environmental cooperation and scrutiny, describing it as a "valuable asset" in improving corporate accountability.
The CEO concluded by expressing hope that continued innovation and clean technologies will shape a future of sustainable, environmentally aligned industrial development.
