The launch of the Esteghlal vessel coincides with Esteghlal FC’s eighth title win in the Iran Hazfi (Play-off) Cup. The move is part of PGPIC’s broader strategy to align business operations with national interests and shareholder value across its subsidiaries, the company said in a statement.
Built in Japan, the Esteghlal is a medium-range (MR) tanker, 182.5 meters in length with a draft of 12.6 meters. It is equipped with 14 cargo tanks and can transport up to 40,000 tonnes of two different types of oil products simultaneously.
The addition of the vessel supports Iran’s broader energy goals under the 14th government. PGPIC said it delivers all reformate and diesel produced by its subsidiaries to the Ministry of Petroleum, which uses them in domestic gasoline production and to power electricity plants. The Esteghlal is expected to play a key logistical role in transporting these critical energy supplies.
The initiative underscores efforts to bridge energy supply imbalances while leveraging commercial assets to support national sports and economic resilience.
