Arvand Petchem Co., KIA Engineering sign deal to localize PVC production technology

TEHRAN, May 11 (PGPIC) – Iran’s Arvand Petrochemical Company and KIA Process Design Engineers signed a cooperation agreement on Sunday to jointly localize production technology for the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) value chain, state media reported.

The agreement was inked on the sidelines of the 29th Iran International Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Exhibition by Arvand Petrochemical CEO Mohammadreza Karimi and KIA Engineering CEO Mohammad Seifi, under the auspices of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC), the largest petrochemical holding in Iran.

Foziyeh Morovvat, Director of Strategic Technology Infrastructure at PGPIC, said the group is shifting from being merely a product seller to becoming a licensor of process technologies across the petrochemical chain. “This agreement marks the beginning of a national effort to extract and localize key process know-how with the help of domestic knowledge ecosystems, including universities and tech-based firms,” she added.

Karimi noted that Arvand Petrochemical is the largest producer of chlorine derivatives in the Middle East. “There is a notable shortage of over 1.2 million tonnes of PVC in the market, and we need to develop new models and capacities,” he said. “By localizing the PVC chain license, we can create significant opportunities for domestic knowledge-based companies and boost their export potential.”

PGPIC said the collaboration also involves the Isfahan Science and Technology Town, aiming to enhance Iran’s technological self-reliance and reduce dependence on foreign licensors in the vital PVC sector.
